How Does Massage Spa Work?
Massage is the stroking, kneading, warming, rolling and pressing of skin and
muscles. It is one of the most popular treatments on spa menus and has a wide

improve general wellbeing and help to prevent illnesses by encouraging blood flow,

During a treatment, your therapist may apply oils to smooth your skin and promote
relaxation. These are known as aromatherapy oils and can be scented or unscented
depending on your preference. There are many different types of oil, with each

others may invigorate and boost the immune system. The most common oils used
include lavender, ylang ylang, cypress and tea tree.
You may feel a little sore after your massage, but this is usually a good thing. The
soreness is a result of your body getting rid of the toxins that were being held in the
tight muscles, similar to after an intense workout. The soreness will normally last a
day or two.
Afterwards, try to rest and relax. It is best to avoid any high impact activities
immediately after a massage, especially if you have had deep tissue work. Heading
to the gym or going for a run are not ideal, as your muscles have just been worked
and stretched, and you could be putting yourself at risk of injury.
Your therapist will ask you if you have any specific areas of pain or tension and will
use the techniques that are most appropriate to those concerns. They will probably
also talk to you about your general health to make sure that there is no
contraindication for the massage and if they need to take extra precautions to
protect themselves or you during the session.


After your massage, it is a good idea to drink plenty of water to help flush the toxins
from your body. It is also a good idea to avoid alcohol and caffeine for a while after
your massage.
If you are happy with your therapist and treatment, it is customary to tip them 20
percent of the total cost. Some spas will have envelopes available to fill out, so you
can write your therapist’s name on the front and a note saying that they deserve it.
The biggest reason to tip your therapist is to show that you appreciated their service
and that they made an impact on your experience at the spa. If you don’t feel that
the massage was worthy of a 20 percent tip, speak with the spa manager or front
desk staff instead of just not leaving a tip.
